Dynamic, Vivacious Songstresses

It’s no coincidence that the all-female band’s first single was a hit that aims to inspire women and make them stronger even after facing the toughest situations. These are women, seriously intent on music but even more concerned about empowering fellow women. The BlackByrd trio consists of Tarryn Lamb, Tamsyn Maker and Axene Chaberski-Loubser, a dynamic set of songstresses who reveal that they have been working towards their big moment – that of being signed by EMI Music, a prestigious international recording label- for the past couple of years. BlackByrd made waves throughout South Africa when their first chart-topping single off the album, “All For Me”, was aired extensively during Women’s Month of August in 2012, and again during the Sixteen Days of Activism Campaign against the Abuse of Women and Children! The underlying message of the track urges women to be true to themselves, and stand up for their rights, particularly against the abuse of women and children.

Paradise in Pietermaritzburg

Set in a magnificent valley boasting the Karkloof River and Karkloof Falls, the second-highest falls in the province, Karkloof Safari Spa in KwaZulu-Natal is Africa’s largest and most luxurious spa and game reserve. Established in 2002 when owner Fred Wörner acquired it as an existing game reserve breeding disease-free buffalo, Fred felt its grand beauty and tranquil setting needed to be shared. Knowing that there are over 2 000 game reserves in sub-Saharan Africa, he believed this pristine setting would be well defined by a destination spa. Since its transformation, the most popular appeal that Karkloof holds is its spa which offers unlimited treatments for guests, with the most popular being the Thai aroma and de-stress massage. All the spa treatments are Thai-based, with qualified therapists from Thailand. The spa also offers traditional Thai massage known as yoga massage. This, Fred says, takes some getting used to because of its intensity.
