This adventurous woman, who has worked in the advertising agency world for many years but changed track at the age of 40 when she took a year off to complete her Masters in Business Administration (MBA), loves to travel. It is during her travels that she takes time out to taste a variety of foods before hitting the road in her running shoes to burn the calories; and then taking a long walk with her partner, exploring new sights and attractions. Diane has also worked as Marketing and Sales Manager for MWEB as well as Marketing Manager for Distell.
Diane says that, “with information being more accessible to consumers these days, individuals have the power to make informed choices – they are able to find out what is in the food products they buy and consume”. With the available information, it is not surprising that individuals are becoming more and more particular about what it is they are spending their money on. Food choices are not driven by hunger. Therefore, people choose food that is not only filling, but which is also actually good for the body and mind.
A balanced diet is not just about consuming the correct foods, but is also about knowing what to do after eating the food. It is for this reason that, today, a large number of people are becoming more involved in running and cycling and are participating in other sports. “A person has to eat well if they want to train well,” says Diane. “By offering healthier menu options, today’s modern restaurant aims to cater for this informed consumer. This places consumers in a great position, for they are able to make informed decisions more often,” Diane continues
.Also, by just looking around, one quickly sees that the subject of healthy eating is dominating the media landscape. Local and international statistics are heightening consumer awareness and ensure that the topic is always in the spotlight. “As far as KAUAI’s unique offering is concerned, KAUAI’s ‘eat better, live better’ philosophy and our ‘good vibes’ sun are our promise to bring the pure, fresh flavours of the island of KAUAI to you. At KAUAI, everything tastes deliciously good, is good for you and is made from the freshest natural ingredients available. KAUAI believes that ‘the world would be a better place if we took a healthier, more balanced approach to life’.”
Having said that, it is important to note that there is a large number of people who, although willing to eat healthily, just do not know how to do it in an affordable and simple manner. Diane agrees that eating at a restaurant is not the only way to reap the benefits. She gives tips on how to go about choosing a healthy lifestyle:
To those who want to develop healthy eating habits, Diane says: “Always start with small changes and be consistent. Some of the diets teach very little in terms of changing one’s behaviour concerning food, so individuals should also focus more on their behaviour to complement what they eat. Also, moderation is key.” Indeed, the world of food is transforming at a phenomenally fast rate. Women can adapt to this new world by reading more and keeping themselves informed and educated. Diane emphasises that there is a huge amount of information out there and that one needs to be able to make good decisions about what works and what does not. Cooking and experimenting at home with different cooking methods and flavours are also great ways for one to learn how to adjust tastes and preferences. “Remember, very few people manage to eat healthily every single day. Our life’s journey is one of spiritual progress, not perfection. We must all do what we can each day to make healthy, or healthier, choices and be able not to give up or beat ourselves up if we do not win at first, because we can keep on trying,” concludes Diane.
KAUAI’s Key Principles When Making Healthy Foods
-
Less fat – fats are neither good nor natural.
-
Fry less – the oiliest thing that one should eat is an avocado.
-
Freshness – the freshest ingredients should be used whenever possible.
-
Less dairy – a good dairy alternative is rice milk, especially for those who are lactose intolerant.
-
Wholeness – as nature intended. Foods should be kept as close to their whole and natural state as possible so that none of their flavour and goodness are lost during preparation.
-
Wheat- and gluten-free – rye.
-
More vegetables – even where someone has to use dressing, it is best to consider fat-free and egg-free dressing.
-
Protein – muscles require protein that contains the highest quality whey.
-
Juice – freshly squeezed juices are packed with live enzymes and extra vitamins.
Making Healthier Choices
Consumers are becoming more aware of the need to eat healthily, and are becoming more and more educated about the effects of a bad diet. Hospitals, clinics and health institutions are being inundated by diseases such as diabetes, high-blood pressure and heart disease. One way to reduce or reverse these symptoms is to eat healthily – and that is the bottom line according to Diane St Clair Moor, Chief Marketing Officer for KAUAI.
KAUAI’s approach is based on a strong belief that healthy eating improves one’s quality of life and is more than a philosophy. “KAUAI positions itself in the minds of consumers as the first choice in healthy convenience food and it continues to provide healthy meals, because it wants to be recognised as having developed a culture of healthy eating in the world we live in,” outlines Diane.
